Click to ViewThis Flame/furnace Atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) easily determine low concentration of various elements (Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, K, Na, Mg, Mo, Co, Ni, Ca, Pb, Cd, Al, Cr, Si, Ag) through flame atomic absorption (AA) as well a few (K and Na) in emission mode in the solution. With its double-beam optics, flow injection mercury systems and solid-state detector, this instrument has sensitivity level of over 0.1 ppb. Detection limit varies from 0.2 ppb for Mg to 3000 ppb for Lanthanum. Some common element detection limits are Al-45 ppb, B-1000 ppb, Co-9 ppb, Cu-1.5 ppb, Fe-5 ppb, K-3 ppb, Mn-1.5 ppb. Emission spectra λ for Na is 589 nm, K 766 nm, Ba 554 nm, Ca 662 nm, Li 670nm and Absorption spectra λ for Zn is 214 nm, Fe 248 nm, Cu 325 nm, Na 589 nm. This instrument is equipped with graphite furnace HGA900. The source of flame is (C2H2-N2O)/(C2H2-Air)

  Working Principles
Click to ViewAA400 Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) is a spectro-analytical procedure for quantitative determination of metals, rare earths and metalloids using the absorption/emission of optical radiation (light) by free atoms in the gaseous state. It requires standards with known element contents to establish the relation between the absorbance and the analyte concentrations. The electrons of the atoms in the atomizer are promoted to higher orbitals (excited state) for a short period of time by absorbing a defined quantity of energy. This amount of energy and wavelength, is specific to a particular element and each wavelength corresponds to only one element, and increases with the number of atoms of the selected element in the light path increases. Performing atomic absorption spectroscopy requires a primary light source, an atomizer, monochromator to isolate the specific wavelength of light to be measured, a detector to measure the light accurately, and electronics to process the data signal and a data display or reporting system to show the results. The light source is a hollow cathode lamp (HCL). Graphite Furnace HGA 900 The sample is introduced directly into a graphite tube, heated in a programmed series of steps to atomize within the tube and the light path passes through the tube for an extended period of time, which results in sensitivity and detection limits improved over Flame AA. Graphite Furnace analysis times are longer than flame sampling, but GFAA allows the determination of over 40 elements in microliter sample volumes with detection limits 100 to 1000 times better than Flame AA systems.
