Instrument/Facility Name: Atomic Absorption Spectrometer
Make                                   : Agilent Technologies
Model                                  : 200 Series AA
Specification   :

Click to ViewAtomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) is a spectroanalytical procedure for the quantitative determination of chemical elements using the absorption of optical radiation (light) by free atoms in the gaseous state.

  Working Principles
Click to ViewThe Atomic Absorption Spectrometry uses the principle that free atoms (gas) generated in an atomizer can absorb radiation at a specific frequency. AAS quantifies the absorption of ground state atoms in the gaseous state. The atoms absorb either ultraviolet or visible light and make transitions to higher electronic energy levels. The concentration of analyte is determined from the amount of absorption. Concentration measurements are usually determined using the graph curve plotted with standards of known concentration. The radiation flux without a sample and with a sample in the atomizer is measured using detector, and the ratio between the two values (the absorbance) is converted to analyte concentration or mass using Baer-Lamberts Law.

  Applications
  User Instructions
It can analyze over 62 elements and measures the concentration of metals and metalloids in the samples. Many industries require elemental determinations on a diverse array in different sectors viz. Agriculture, Chemical/Industrial, Environmental Study, etcAs per user manual of 200 Series AA
