Click to ViewTwo dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) is a protein separation technique which combines immobilised pH gradient-isoelectric focussing (IPG-IEF, as 1st dimension) SDS-PAGE (as 2nd dimension) method and is of commonly used technique in proteomic studies. The 2-DE can potentially resolve upto 1000 protein spots simultaneously.

  Working Principles
Click to ViewProtein separation using two dimensions. In the Ist dimension the proteins will be separated on a IPG strip based on their iso-electric point and in the IInd dimension protein will be separated based on their molecular weight using SDS-PAGE. Here proteins are separated on a gel.
