  Working Principles
Click to ViewThis instrument is used to qualitative assessment of the surface chemistry of the solid materials. It works on the principle that the most molecules absorb light in the infra-red region of the electromagnetic spectrum. This absorption corresponds specifically to the bonds present in the molecule/material. The frequency range is measured as wave numbers typically over the range 4000 – 500 cm-1. This ALPHA has Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) system, which is an easy-to-use FTIR sampling method and ideal for solids. The Platinum-ATR is a single reflection ATR module has outstanding chemical and mechanical robustness. Its diamond crystal is brazed into tungsten carbide hard metal which allows the application of very high pressure so that even very hard samples can be measured.
